OLYMPIC GAMES 2008  Badminton Draw Brought Forward    
WBF 07 July 2008

The BWF announced today, that the draw date for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Badminton Competition has been brought forward to Saturday 26 July to ensure better television broadcast scheduling of badminton by rights holders interested in badminton on Day One of Games competition.

Nabil LASMARI, who was for many months instead of a simple Africa 1st Male rose to second place in the ranking WBF of 29 May 2008. It is the Ugandans Edwin EKIRING with 354 points higher (BCA), which takes the place of leader.
In WBF World Ranking of 29 May, Nabil LASMARI is now the 101st place with 13,250 points, behind Edwin EKIRING ranked 97th with 13,840 points.

Players Commission Granted Voting Rights

THE Badminton World Federation (BWF) have made a major breakthrough with the introduction and inclusion of an Athletes Commission to the BWF Council.
The Athletes Commission, representing all professional players in the game, will have full voting rights and will be policy compliant with International Olympic Committee recommendation. The decision was taken at the BWC Council meeting held in Jakarta earlier this month.

The Tripartite Commission in charge of assigning invitations for participation in next OJ Beijing has qualified:

They join the nine of the selection already known and therefore to 11 the number of African competitors who will be competing in the Badminton in Beijing next August.
About Ladies, Hadia Hosny (EGY) and Kerry-Lee Harrington (RSA) have not had the chance of men and are ranked 1st and 2nd on the substitute list.

The III Commonwealth Youth Games will be held in Pune, India 2008.It is for the first time in history that Commonwealth Youth Games are being held in Asia, in India. The city of Pune, the cultural capital of Maharashtra and a fast growing Metropolis, will host the 3rd Commonwealth Youth Games between 12 - 18 October in 2008 with the for 9 disciplines; Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestling.

BADMINTON

  Maximum of 4 men and 4 women per CGA.

(Singles: 2 men & 2 women; Doubles: 2 pairs each (men & women)).
