Presentation of the competition
The Olympic program includes five events: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
Concretely, the tournament will begin with a preliminary phase composed of 16 groups in Singles.
Pool heads will be determined by the BWF ranking, with number 1 automatically placed in the 1st pool, and number 2 in the last pool.
The 3/4 seeded heads are placed on the intermediate pools by drawing lots, and so on until the 16 pool heads are distributed. The pools are then completed randomly, before giving way to the traditional tournament in direct elimination.
The competition will take place from Thursday August 11 to Saturday August 20, 2016.
